MERRILLVILLE | Students and staff members at Merrillville Intermediate School celebrated black history with an excellent program during school hours on Feb. 20.
The program started off with the whole audience standing and singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing," with lyrics by James Walden Johnson. Leading everyone in song was Briany Wagner from the sixth grade blue team accompanied by Mrs. Lillie and Mrs. Hobson.
The Pretty Elegant Articulate Respectful Young Ladies Society and Students Never Accepting Peer Pressure groups performed authentic dances. The MIS choir and orchestra performed songs. The high school Socially Together and Naturally Diverse group performed a bus skit after the MIS Stand read what their dreams are. The United Dance Arts Dancers from Valparaiso, Indiana performed and Raelyn Greene from Merrillville High School performed a solo.
The program ended with all S.T.A.N.D. members performing their pledge.
