Oct. 4 was “Put your nose in a good book day.” The Indiana Adult Literacy Coalition started this campaign in September 2003 to emphasize the importance of reading and literacy.
Merrillville Intermediate School students and staff took time out for reading at 10 a.m. last Friday. Whether the students were in science, social studies, math or English class, all dropped what they were doing and opened a book to read. Some read from their digital books, others from paperback books. Even staff members stopped to read a book.
