MERRILLVILLE | Mr. Suges’ s fifth grade purple team social studies students are learning about the groups which made up communities in early America.

Through a Native American Village project, they compared the different ways that these communities were organized, how they resolved conflicts and how they adapted to their environment. Later on, they explored different stories about how scientific and technological innovations changed the way people survived and explored.

All students were to bring in their own villages. Some used edible items, others used natural materials. Every student stood in front of the class reading a story about their village.

Each student were graded on; neatness, did the project look authentic, completeness-were seven items there and labeled, and did the story go along with the village.

All enjoyed showing off their craftiness.
