MERRILLVILLE | The majority of the renovation work at Merrillville Town Hall could be coming to a close.
Town Councilman Tom Goralczyk said he anticipates most of the project will be finished by Jan. 15.
New LED lighting for the front parking lot was delivered to the facility last week.
Goralczyk said the lights were installed and they could be operational by the end of the week.
Town leaders initially thought the lights would have been been delivered by Dec. 1, but the delivery was delayed because the manufacturer wasn't finished with the order at that time.
The parking lot has been resurfaced and a new walkway has been added from a gazebo to the Town Hall entrance.
New flags poles are slated to be installed outside of the facility, which hasn't been renovated since Merrillville operations moved into the building nearly 20 years ago.
Goralczyk said some exterior painting hasn't occurred yet, and that work won't be finished before Jan. 15 because of the cold temperatures.
He said exterior paintwork might not last long if the painting is done during cold weather.
The interior of the building has received new carpeting. The sprinkler system has been replaced and interior walls have been painted.
Goralczyk said updating the sign outside of Town Hall wasn't included in this project. He thinks Merrillville could seek bids for that work in February.
