MUNSTER | Hospice of the Calumet Area, along with Smith Bizzell Warner Funeral Home and Spring Mill Health Campus, is highlighting the importance of advance healthcare decision-making by participating in National Healthcare Decisions Day on April 16.
Locally, NHDD is sponsored to provide free information and tools for individuals 18 and older to talk about their wishes and execute advance directives - healthcare power of attorney and living will - in accordance with Indiana and Illinois state laws.
The free program will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Spring Mill Health Campus in Merrillville.
Hospice of the Calumet Area staff will make a short presentation explaining the goals and details of advance directives. At its conclusion, they will help interested attendees complete their personal advance directives.
In addition, a Smith Bizzell Warner Funeral Home professional will present information about end-of-life planning.
“Hospice of the Calumet Area encourages all adults to have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and make their wishes known,” Craig Harrell, Director of Marketing and Community Relations, said. “We are pleased to co-sponsor National Healthcare Decisions Day so fewer families and healthcare providers will struggle with difficult decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient.”
Although this presentation is offered free of charge, you must RSVP by calling (219) 922-2732 or (708) 895-8332 for purposes of refreshments.
