MERRILLVILLE | Officer Young was visiting Merrillville Intermediate School today. His visit was part of the new Indiana State Police “School Walk Through Initiative.”

Officers visit schools during the school day to talk to students at lunch or in the hallways. The program is statewide. It provides an additional level of security to schools while giving children the opportunity to interact with the police officer in a positive way. Officers also assist at the end of the school day to make sure no vehicle traffic tries to fly by the buses as the students are loading.

This program has the highest level of support from Indiana Governor Mike Pence and the Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter.
