MERRILLVILLE | The driver of a pickup truck was injured early Wednesday morning when his vehicle entered oncoming traffic and was hit broadside, police said.
The two vehicle crash at Taft Street and 93rd Avenue was reported to police at 7:57 a.m., Bob Wiley said.
Wiley serves as commander of the Merrillville Police Department detective bureau.
Wiley said the driver of the pickup was headed south on Taft Street, approaching 93rd Avenue, when he entered northbound traffic and was hit by a man driving a Chrysler 300.
Police are not certain why the driver of the pickup truck had been headed north.
The driver could have hit black ice or was possibly trying to make a u-turn, Wiley said.
The driver, whose injuries weren't life-threatening, was transported to Methodist Hospital Southlake campus in Merrillville, Wiley said.
