MERRILLVILLE | Following recent residential burglaries in town, Police Chief Joseph Petruch advises residents to be aware of their surroundings.

Petruch said large screen televisions and jewelry have been targeted during recent burglaries.

He asks residents to contact the Police Department at (219) 769-3531 if they witness suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

"It's the nosy neighbor that catches somebody," Petruch said.
