MERRILLVILLE | Police said a man put chains around an ATM about 2:20 a.m. Friday and ripped the machine out of the International Union of Operating Engineers hall near Taft Street and 84th Place.

The suspect has been described as a heavy-set man in his 50s. Police believe the man could be a tow truck driver or an employee at a towing business.

The suspect was driving a Blue Chevrolet Blazer with Indiana plates, police said.
