MERRILLVILLE | On Sept. 26, Prompt Ambulance hosted its Annual Taste of Care at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville. People came from all over Northwest Indiana to the event to sample delectable appetizers, entrees and desserts created by chefs (and their teams) from local health care facilities.
Each team prepared a special dish and served them from highly decorated booths. Guests of the event had the chance to walk around, sample the cuisine and vote for their favorite dishes. Teams were judged based on creativity, plating, and booth decor. Winners to be announced shortly.
“Our homemade turtles are going like crazy," said Kevin Orze, marketing director at Hartsfield Village. "Our chef was up all night and I just told her that it was definitely worth her effort," he added. "Of course we want to win but more than that, we want to show people that we truly and deeply care about the residents in our community and one of the ways we show that love is through preparing great food for them."
The parking lot of the event even held some special features! A transport helicopter from the University of Chicago Hospitals landed in the parking lot not too far from the armored military vehicle on display near the entrance.
