MERRILLVILLE | To celebrate the 100th day of the school year, administrators at Montessori Academy of NWI in Merrillville decided to host a food drive on an effort to collect 100 cans of food to donate to St. Mary Church's Food Pantry in Crown Point.

"Our goal was to collect 100 cans total. We so exceeded that by collecting over 450 cans," said secretary Charlotte Graham. "We have 87 children in our Montessori Academy and used the collection of cans as a learning (to count) experience and a practical life experience. . .doing for others."
