MERRILLVILLE | No injuries were reported after multiple shots were fired Monday afternoon near the Hickory Ridge Lake apartment complex.
Multiple witnesses told police they heard several shots about 1:30 p.m. in the northeast side of the apartment complex, which is near 57th Avenue and Cleveland Street.
One witness indicated he saw three men running in the area after he heard the shots, according to a police report.
Minutes later, another round of shots were heard in the west portion of the complex, the report states.
Following those shots, a witness saw people shooting at each other from a tan vehicle and a gray or light blue car.
The witness told police the tan vehicle was chasing the other car as they were leaving the complex.
The vehicles traveled south on Hayes Street, but they drove out of view after making a turn onto another street, according to the police report.
A witness indicated shots continued from the vehicles as the cars left the area, the report states.
Merrillville officers collected spent bullet casings from multiple locations near the apartment complex, according to the report.
