Store clerk killed during armed robbery in Merrillville

MERRILLVILLE | A 48-year-old Merrillville woman was shot and killed during an armed robbery at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lucky Mart Foods, 5695 Cleveland St., officials said.

Judi Simpson-Beaver, of the 5700 block of Grant Street, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Simpson-Beaver was working as a clerk when a man entered the store, took cash and shot her, Merrillville Police Chief Joseph Petruch said.

Police were searching for three men driving a brown, older model Oldsmobile with no license plate and possibly a discolored hood, he said.
