MERRILLVILLE | Footprints led police to three teenagers accused of burglarizing two Merrillville homes.
About 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a burglary was reported at a home in the 1200 block of West 84th Place, Merrillville police Sgt. Jeff Rice said.
Officers located footprints near a window that was broken during the incident.
While following the footprints, police located three juveniles, Rice said. Officers apprehended two of the suspects following a short foot pursuit, he said.
Both of the subjects admitted they were involved in the break-in, Rice said.
Police later learned the identity of the third suspect, who was later apprehended, he said.
While investigating the situation, police determined the three were involved in another burglary Tuesday morning on 82nd Avenue, Rice said.
Electronics, cash and jewelry were taken from the two homes, Rice said. Police recovered some of the items, he said.
All of the suspects were taken to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
Two of the suspects are 17 years old and one is 14, Rice said. The teenagers are Merrillville residents, but police couldn't release their names because they are juveniles.
Rice said the three teenagers have been charged with burglary in Lake Juvenile Court.
