MERRILLVILLE | A Positive Approach to Teen Health presents Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help recognize and review risk, and intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.
The training will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18, in the lower level meeting rooms at the Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. U.S. 30. Registration begins at 9:15.
Cost is $145, and includes lunch both days. Participants must be at least 16.
ASIST will prepares attendees to provide suicide first aid interventions. As an ASIST-trained first aid intervention mediator, learn to identify people who have thoughts of suicide, understand how your beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide interventions, seek a shared understanding of the reasons for thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living, review current risk and develop a plan to increase safety from suicidal behavior for an agreed amount of time and follow up on all safety commitments, accessing further help as needed.
Trainers are certified by Living Works Inc.(www.livingworks.net/programs/asist) as accomplished practitioners in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.
