MERRILLVILLE | Three people were charged Wednesday, accused of pointing a handgun at a man, fleeing police and crashing on Interstate 65.
A 3-year-old child was with the trio during the incident, and was sitting in the front passenger seat when the group fled from police, according to an arrest affidavit.
Diontae L. Bailey, 21, faces charges of three counts of pointing a firearm, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and criminal recklessness. Aaron D. Johnson, 25, was charged with possession of marijuana and resisting law enforcement. Diamond S. Keller, 21, was charged with neglect of a child.
They are accused of following a former boyfriend of Keller's on Monday from a Merrillville Speedway gas station to his home.
Bailey pointed a gun at the man at least twice during the incident, the affidavit stated. They drove off after the man yelled at his siblings to call police.
As officers arrived at the scene, the man pointed out the suspects who were driving around the neighborhood.
Officers chased the vehicle onto Interstate 65 but lost sight of the car near 61st Avenue. Shortly after the chase ended, a crash was reported on I-65 near Ridge Road.
Police found the suspects' car and Johnson near the crash scene. Officers used a stun gun on Johnson after he refused to roll over, the report stated.
Bailey and Keller, who was holding the toddler, were found running from the scene down a nearby embankment, police said. A gun and 83 grams of marijuana were found in the car.
