MERRILLVILLE | One thousand fifth- and sixth-graders at Merrillville Intermediate School got creative recently when the Lake County Substance Abuse Council held a poster contest in honor of Red Ribbon Week.
Poster entries were judged at the school and the top three entries were submitted to the Lake County Substance Abuse Council. Sophia Lotkowski, a fifth-grade White Team student, Savanah Collins, a sixth-grade Purple Team student, and Kaylee Conner, a sixth-grade White Team student, each received a Participation Certificate and tumbler from LCSAC.
MIS Social Worker M. Mrs. Rogowski and Guidance Director K. Jones coordinated the contest with the MIS art teachers. All students created their posters at home. Sixth-grade art teacher Y. Raketic assisted with the selection of the top three posters from all MIS entries.
