Three complete basic training
Army Pvt. Glenn L. Cosey, Army National Guard Pvt. Zachary D. Sandefur and Army Pvt. Ohaj M. Reese have graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Cosey is the son of Glenn Cosey, of Chicago, and stepson of Patricia Cosey, of Riverdale. He is a 2010 graduate of Thornton Township High School, Harvey.
Sandefur is the son of Jeffry Sandefur, of Highland. He is a 2012 graduate of Merrillville High School.
Reese is the son of Willena Reese, of Hammond. He is a 2012 graduate of Gavit High School, Hammond.
Two graduate from military training
Air Force Airman David M. Barksdale and Air Force Airman Christopher R. Heard graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Barksdale is the son of Latanya Barksdale, of Hammond, and grandson of Rosemary Barksdale, of Chicago. He is a 2009 graduate of Thornridge High School, Dolton, Ill.
Heard is the son of Cheryl and Roger Heard, of Hammond.
He is a 2010 graduate of Morton Senior High School, Hammond.
