The Munster High School Marching Mustangs placed fourth on Nov. 4 in Indianapolis at the Indiana State School Music Association Open Class B state finals at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It is the highest finish at the state finals in marching band history. The band is under the direction of Bret Winternheimer.

This year's show titled "Return of the Scarecrow" was based on a YouTube video for Chipotle restaurant.

Last year the band placed seventh at state finals. There are 92 band students and 25 color guard members. There are 17 seniors in the group.

The Band Backers help support the high school band program with fundraisers throughout the year. Upcoming events include hosting the concession stand for the Arts and Crafts Fair Dec. 2 and 3 at the high school; hosting the ISSMA Wind/Percussion/Strings solo and ensemble District Festival Contest on Feb. 3; and the Ladies Night Out Bunco event on Jan. 19 at Casa Maria Hall in Dyer.
