SCHERERVILLE | Briar Ridge Country Club has announced that two more of its caddies, A. J. Gauthier and Collin Ringas, have been awarded Evans Scholarships.
Gauthier has caddied at Briar Ridge for five years. He attends Munster High School with a 4.36 grade point average on a scale of 4.0, and plans on attending Indiana University and majoring in business or chemistry. As a caddy, Gauthier said, he has learned "Respect, communicating with others and learning that having a job can actually be fun."
A Mustang golfer, he has earned first-team All Conference, All-Area and MVP awards and was the and Sectional medalist in 2012.
Collin follows in his sisters' footsteps as an Evans recipient and has caddied at Briar Ridge for three years. He will graduate from Chesterton High School with a 3.91 grade point average on a scale of 4.0, and attend Indiana University as a business major.
His high school sports have included varsity soccer, track, swimming and diving.
His experience as a caddy has taught him "Communication skills, customer service, discipline and time management," he said.
The Evans Scholars Foundation is a charitable trust that provides full, four-year tuition and housing college scholarships for deserving caddies. Applicants must have a strong caddy record, excellent grades, financial need and outstanding character.
