MUNSTER | A tip to the Lake County sheriff's crime hotline led to two drug busts Thursday, with one at a posh Munster condo netting 53 pounds of marijuana and $13,614 in cash.
Arrested at the Munster residence was Christopher Biederstatd, 30, of 1638 Camellia Drive, after a search warrant was executed at his condo, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Department. He was charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony dealing in narcotics.
That search warrant was issued after officers with the Lake County Drug Task Force acting on a phone tip made a traffic stop in Hammond of Nicholas Walters, 28, of LaPorte. The stop yielded 7 pounds of marijuana, a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, $600 and information on the Biederstatd residence, according to Lake County police.
Walters was charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony dealing in narcotics.
Both Biederstatd and Walters are being held at the Lake County Jail.
In addition to the marijuana and $13,614 in cash seized at Biederstatd's condo, a 2010 Audi Q5 SUV was seized, police said.
