LAPORTE | Several Indiana University Health locations are offering mammograms in May at a $95 discounted rate.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling the LaPorte location at (219) 326-2444, the Plymouth location at (800) 654-4841, ext. 2444, or the Knox location at (574) 772-1177.

Patients must be asymptomatic and have no history of breast cancer. Mammograms must be scheduled before May 31.

Patients are responsible for payment in full at the time of service. Payment can be made by cash, check, credit or debit card. No physician order is required, but patients must provide their physician name at time of scheduling.

 

Podiatrist to discuss common foot concerns

MUNSTER | Podiatrist Anne Sharkey will discuss the symptoms, causes and treatments of many common foot problems at a free class June 11.

The class will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Franciscan Medical Specialists Administration Building, 757 45th St.

Stroke presentation set for May 28

VALPARAISO | Porter Regional Hospital’s Center for Cardiovascular Medicine will present Signs and Symptoms of Stroke at 1 p.m. May 28 in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Valparaiso Medical Center, 2000 Roosevelt Road.

The free presentation will feature Porter’s Stroke Coordinator Nicole Stevens, a nurse who will share ways to reduce the risk of stroke and how to act when a stroke occurs to save lives and brain cells.

Stroke is America’s third leading cause of death and a top cause of serious disability. Studies show up to 80 percent of strokes can be prevented by working with a health care professional to reduce risk, according to the National Stroke Association.

 

Physician joins practice

MUNSTER | Dr. Monica Aloman has joined Franciscan Hammond Clinic and Franciscan Medical Specialists in the Department of Rheumatology.

She is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology and has seven years of rheumatology experience in both in-patient and out-patient settings.

Aloman practices at the Franciscan Hammond Clinic Specialty Center located at 7905 Calumet Ave. She also practices at Franciscan Medical Specialists Munster Medical Center located at 761 45th St.

She is fluent in Romanian and English and has partial Spanish language skills.

 

Hospital offers babysitting classes this summer

MICHIGAN CITY | Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Michigan City will offer its next Safe Sitter babysitting courses from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12, July 17 and Aug. 8.

Participants ages 11 through 14 will learn safe child care skills, basic first aid and child nurturing techniques. Participants should meet in the hospital lobby and will be escorted to the classroom in St. Francis Hall, located on the lower level.

The fee is $35, and registration is required by calling (800) 931-3322. The hospital is located at 301 W. Homer St.
