MUNSTER | A 61-year-old Lansing man was killed when his car was struck by a speeding vehicle early Friday at the intersection of Ridge Road and Hohman Avenue, according to police.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and charges are pending, said Sgt. Steve Kovacik, spokesman for the Munster police.
The crash occurred at 2:30 a.m. when a Cadillac Escalade ESL traveling south on Hohman Avenue at a high rate of speed struck the driver's side door of a 2005 GMC pickup crossing the intersection.
The Lake County coroner's office identified the man driving the GMC pickup as Fred Skafgaard, 61, of Lansing. Skafgaard was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. from blunt force trauma.
The driver of the Cadillac, Michael Temores, 24, of Munster, was taken to The Community Hospital in Munster with unspecified injuries.
