LANSING | A St. Baldrick's Foundation Fundraiser was held April 20 at Cheer's in Munster to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. About 30 individuals volunteered to shave their heads at the event and accepted donations for the cause. The event was organized by Dave and Christie Zumm of Highland.
Among those who volunteered to have their heads shaved at the event were members of the Highland High School football team and firefighters from area departments, including several members of the Lansing Fire Department. The Lansing Fire Department's team was called "Hose Out Cancer," and each member helped raise funds through taking online donations for the cause and then having their heads shaved at the event.
Raffle tickets were also sold for dozens of prizes donated by area businesses. The total raised at the event was over $10,000, which was more than twice the initial goal.
