MUNSTER | Indiana students, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, competed in the Indiana State Chess tournament held recently at Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne. Select members of the the Munster Chess Team were chosen to represent Munster. Akash Shah, varsity senior captain, placed first place in the Grade 12 Division; David Vogel earned first in the Grade 11 Division; and Perima Shah placed fourth in the Grade 9 Division among all high school students in the competition. Also, fifth-graders Devin Gronkiewicz and Blake Marcotte placed third and fourth, respectively, in their division; and Yashom Kapoor, second-grader, earned fifth place in his division. The 13 first-place winners each received a $50 gift certificate from Amazon.com, while second- and third-place winners received gift certificates in smaller amounts.
