MUNSTER | The Town Council has modified the 2013 municipal budget of $47.7 million to match transfers between funds authorized earlier this month.
The Department of Local Government Finance certified Munster’s municipal budget March 15.
“The final amounts for the controlled funds were, in some cases, reduced from what the council adopted in 2012," Clerk-Treasurer David Shafer said.
On April 8, the Town Council approved budget transfers to bring various funds in balance with the 2013 certified budget. This involved transferring about $1.3 million between such funds as the sewer fund, the redevelopment operating budget and the town’s self-funded medical insurance plan.
Reductions in line items in the Parks Department fund also helped balance that budget with projected revenue, town officials said.
In related business, the council amended the town’s salary ordinance to increase the number of authorized patrol officers in the Munster Police Department.
On Feb. 14, the Munster Board of Safety authorized conditional offers of employment to four top candidates interviewed for patrol officer positions. The candidates must pass all pre-employment criteria.
