MUNSTER | The Munster Rotary Club celebrated nine inspirational leaders during a Jan. 21 ceremony at Cloister In The Woods, and hailed Paula Nellans as its 2013 Woman of the Year.
The club received 11 nominations in December and narrowed the list to three finalists, which included Nancy Feldman, Dianne Kowalski and Nellans.
"This wonderful group of women are truly inspirational," said Theresa Mudd, Munster Rotary president. "All of the nominees have placed a great emphasis on service before self and it is an honor to have the opportunity to recognized their dedication to the community."
Nellans volunteers her time to theCommunity Hospital Auxiliary, Indiana Hospital Auxiliaries, Munster Medical Research, Munster Education Foundation, D.A.R.E, The Salvation Army,Community Cancer Research Foundation, and Cancer Resource Centre. She has also served on the Munster School Board for almost 20 years.
"I use (footbal coach and analyst) Lou Holtz's quotes a lot, but my inspiration has always been my dear friend Bella Webb," said Nellans. "She always pushed doing one more thing to make a difference and that stays in the back of my mind all of the time."
In addition to the finalists, the community leaders nominated in December included Ann Bochnowski, Alice Cannon, Silva Devarj, Phyllis Gilworth, Nancy Hamblin, Wendy Mis, Carol Moore and Dawn Radich-Kotz.
