MUNSTER | Local moms were nominated last month and this month we have crowned our 'Dad That Rocks' contest winner. Of all the entries to choose from, a few Dads just seemed to stand out. Thanks for submitting and www.nwicommunities.com thanks all those who submitted their dads.
Our winner is Hammond's David Aldaz who, along with awesome title, wins a package of prizes that include two tickets, with primo seats to a Cubs game (even though he's wearing a White Sox jersey), Chicago sports-related books package, two certificates good for two rounds of golf with a cart at Youche Country Club, a $40 gift certificate at Carriage Court Pizza, and a haircut, shave and 30-minute massage at Man Cave Barbershop.
KING OF DADS | THE DAVID ALDAZ STORY (Hammond, IN)
I am nominating my husband David Aldaz for best father. I have 2 older children from a previous relationship and we have a 6 year-old. David accepted my older kids as family right from the very beginning. In his vocabulary, "there are no step-kids."
David has been without steady work since January 2012. Since then, he has been a stay-at-home father. He wakes up with our 6 year-old and gets her ready for school, helping her with homework and keeping the house clean for when i got off work.
Last winter, we lost everything we owned, car, home, etc. He has NEVER ONCE let our current situation get the best of him. His faith in God has carried us all through all of our rough times. When i have been in doubt, he has lifted me up. David has a huge heart, does not judge, does not hold grudges, forgives and forgets. He has so many friends..every friend i have met has ALWAYS has good things to say about him. I always tell him i wish i could be like him. He deserves this so much. After all he's done for his family, we feel he is an inspiration.
RUNNER-UP | THE TERRY GJELDUM STORY (St. John, IN)
How many dads do you know that take their kids to jump out of an airplane for fun? How many dads can you think of that run full marathons with their children, take annual family fishing trips, and horseback through the mountains of Colorado just because he knows his daughter has always been in love with horses?
Only one dad comes to mind-his name is Terry Gjeldum and he just so happens to be mine. I am honestly convinced my dad is the best father, husband, and role model in the entire world. My dad has given me one of life’s most precious gifts, which I believe to be unconditional love.
Because of him, I know what it looks and feels like to be utterly selfless. I know what respect is and I know what it looks like to live for Christ. Whether we are planning a trip to serve in another country or simply making dinner plans, my dad always makes it a priority to spend time with his children. A lot of times I don’t know how he juggles it all, but that’s why he’s my Superman.
