MUNSTER | The Munster Police Department invites and encourages all residents and business representatives to attend the next quarterly Munster Crime Watch meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road.
Recent crime statistics and incident reports will be shared, while the public will have the opportunity to ask questions or raise concerns to police officials during and following the meeting.
A brief presentation in regards to home security will also be provided for residents, and crime prevention materials will be available.
A $25 Target gift card will be awarded as a door prize to one attendee at the conclusion of the meeting.
Also, the Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council invite all residents to Munster’s 18th annual National Night Out Against Crime Celebration, which will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Munster Community Pool, 8837 Calumet Ave.
This year’s event will include free swimming (for Munster residents with state or school ID), door prizes, children's games and bouncers, free child identification cards, the Magic of Steve Kellogg show, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, a K-9 demonstration, a 50/50 raffle, hand-outs from local businesses and community organizations, a helicopter landing, music, a free souvenir photo booth and more.
The American Red Cross will also hold a blood drive throughout the afternoon, both prior and during the event, and will open at 3:30 p.m. in front of the pool gates. Walk-up blood donations are welcome, however, residents are encouraged to register their donation time by calling (800) RED-CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code “mcpool.”
"We hope that many residents will join us for this important annual event which encourages police and community partnerships," said Officer James Ghrist. "All residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights that evening in support of the event."
