MUNSTER | A portion of White Oak Avenue will be closed to traffic for about four weeks beginning Wednesday.
Hasse Construction Co. will be installing new storm sewers down White Oak Avenue from Schoon Ditch to 35th Street. The work is part of the Schoon Ditch combined sewer overflow elimination project funded by the Hammond Sanitary District.
The purpose of the project is to eliminate overflow of dilute sewage into Schoon Ditch.
During construction, White Oak will be closed to through traffic. Drivers are encouraged to use Columbia Avenue to Fran-Lin Parkway as an alternate route, rather than cutting through residential neighborhoods.
