MUNSTER | Police continued their hunt Tuesday for a Munster doctor after Monday's search of her home and that of a neighbor. The doctor went missing last week.
Dr. Promila Mehta-Paul, 70, was last seen March 21 making a bank deposit in Highland after leaving her Highland practice, 8219 Kennedy Ave. Family and colleagues said it is unusual for her to leave without notice.
Munster police on Tuesday said they conducted a second search late Monday afternoon of the doctor's residence in the 9000 block of Twin Creek Boulevard and also searched a home across the street, which the doctor was watching for the vacationing owners.
Police said investigators removed some items in hopes of determining the doctor's whereabouts but did not elaborate on the nature of the items.
Detectives still are searching for Mehta-Paul's Toyota Rav4, which was seen in surveillance video from the bank. Police said the crossover SUV may have an Indiana license plate of DW2031 or possibly a California plate of 6LHZ319.
Police on Tuesday also released additional photos of Mehta-Paul, including photos from the surveillance video and family photos.
She has three sons and is divorced, police said.
There has been no activity on her credit cards, and she is not answering her phone, police said.
Mehta-Paul is a white woman of Indian descent. She is about 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs about 130 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information about where Mehta-Paul is or anyone who may have seen her since March 21 is asked to call the Munster Police Department at (219) 836-6600 or the Highland Police Department at (219) 838-3181.
