Society hosts Critter Camp
MUNSTER | The Humane Society Calumet Area hosts a Critter Camp from 9 a.m to noon Monday through Friday and Aug. 5 to 9 for kids 8 to 12 years old at the shelter, 421 45th St. It's a summer day camp aimed at providing a fun, safe, hands-on environment. The campers learn about various aspects of animal care and build a sense of respect and responsibility for animals. The registration fee is $110 and includes materials for crafts, camp T-shirt, photos and a daily snack. Camp size is limited. Polka music featured
HIGHLAND | Dan Mateja and the Downtown Sound will play polka music at the Highland summer concert series from 7 to 9 p.m. at Main Square Park, 3001 Ridge Road. Admission is free.
SerbFest starts 3-day run
MERRILLVILLE | St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral's SerbFest opens to its three-day run at the church grounds, 8700 Taft St. It's from noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. It features ethnic food, live tamburitza bands Saturday and Sunday nights and a beer garden all three days. Kolo dancing is on tap Saturday night. Lunch service, complete with carry-outs, is offered Friday. Admission and parking are free.
See 'Spelling Bee' onstage
MUNSTER | Theater at the Center presents "Spelling Bee" from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Performances run through Aug. 18. Subsequent performances are at 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets range from $38 to $42. Monster trucks make stop
WHITING | Featured trucks from the Monster Jam World Finals will be on display from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Whiting. Drivers will be available for autographs and pictures.
Monster Truck Throwdown
