Donnelly sets Academy Night

VALPARAISO | U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., sponsors an Academy Information Night  from 5 to 7 p.m at American Legion Posts #94, 4 Monroe St., Valparaiso. Representatives from the senator’s office will help students interested in a future in the U.S. Armed Services navigate the application process and will outline the additional requirements that are needed to be considered for a nomination from Donnelly. It's open to all Indiana high school seniors.

Church throws community harvest party

Hay ride passes through lakefont

WHITING | The Whiting FOP Lodge hosts a haunted hay ride from 6 to 10 p.m. at Whihala Beach on the Whiting lakefront.  There will be cookie decorating, a s’mores making station, a caramel apple booth, face painting, concessions, an outdoor movie, and lots of zombies. World's Community Day celebrated

HAMMOND | The Church Women United of Greater Hammond's World Community Day celebration is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Woodmar United Methodist church, 7320 Northcote Ave., Hammond. There is a meeting, lunch and worship. Reservations are necessary; payment of $10 is at the door. Fall food festival on tap in M'ville

MERRILLVILLE | SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church holds its second annual fall food festival from noon to 8 p.m. at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 8000 Madison St., Merrillvile. Roasted Lamb shank, Pastisio (Greek Lasagna), and Roasted Grecian Chicken dinners are available for dine in or carry out. A variety of home made Greek Pastries will also be available.

Comedy Night for Women take stage

DYER | Faith Church, 100 81st Ave., hosts Tracy DeGraaf’s one-woman show "Life Happens, Laugh Anyway." It's from 6 to 10 p.m. but those who come early can have coffee at the at Faithful Grounds Coffee Shop and browse books and gifts at The Vine Bookstore. Jailbreak run steps off in Crown Point

CROWN POINT | The first Jailbreak 5K run and walk is Saturday, starting from and returning to the Old Lake County Jail on the downtown Crown Point square. Race day check-in and registration is from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. The race starts at 7:30 a.m.; awards are presented at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $30.
