Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2697 and American Legion Post 16 held an observance of World War l Armistice and Veterans Days Sunday morning at Community Veterans Memorial in Munster.
Former Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan spoke at Schererville's veterans remembrance Sunday evening. That service was hosted by the town of Schererville, American Legion Post 485, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 717 and the St. John Township Committee.
The city of East Chicago and Mayor Anthony Copeland hosted a ceremony at Veterans Park.
U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Merrillville, and state Sen. Frank Mrvan, D-Hammond, spoke at Hammond American Legion Post 232 services at Hessville Park in Hammond.
Hobart veterans groups gathered at Veterans Memorial Park. Groups from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Marine Corps League placed wreaths.
After the ceremony, lunches were served at Hobart American Legion Post 54, 208 S. Linda St., and Hobart VFW Post 5365.
