Starting May 1, Munster residents will begin receiving new waste and recycling service from Waste Management, and making the transition will be simple.
In late April, Waste Management will deliver the new trash and recycling carts to every residence. Every resident will receive a 96-gallon green trash cart and a 96-gallon green cart with a yellow lid for recycling. Sample carts are on display at Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Rd.
If a smaller cart is needed, town official say they can arrange for that delivery.
Residents are asked to please read the detailed brochure inside the new trash cart that will explain the new collection times and services. Use the green cart with the yellow lid for all recyclable items. Examples of the acceptable items for the single-stream recycling programs are described in the brochure.
Trash will continue to be picked up weekly and recycling will be collected every other week. The brochure includes a map detailing the service zones for the town.
Waste Management is asking Munster residents to have the carts by the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day. Each household may place one bulk items per week with the carts at no additional charge. The bulk items must be smaller than 7 feet and weigh less than 50 pounds.
If residents have questions regarding the new carts, contact Waste Management’s customer service at 1-800-443-5646.
