MUNSTER | Twelve members of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra have been selected to participate in Indiana and Illinois state honor musical groups during the current academic year.
These honor groups include the 2013 Indiana All-State Orchestra, Band and Honor Band, the 2013 Illinois All-State Band and the 2013 Honor Orchestra of America. They were selected, by audition, to perform at the Indiana Music Educator’s Convention in Fort Wayne, Purdue University in Lafayette, and the Hilbert Circle Theater in Indianapolis.
The youth orchestra will hold spring new member auditions for the 2013-14 season for all orchestra instruments from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. The youth orchestra is open to string players entering the eighth grade and wind, brass, and percussion players entering grade 9 through the age of 21.

The new season begins in September with regular Sunday rehearsals.
Under the direction of conductor Philip Bauman, the youth orchestra will present several performances during the uopcoming season, including a your of Germany and Austria in the summer of 2014. The orchestra also performs a concert side-by-side with the Northwest Indiana Symphony annually.
