MUNSTER | Members of the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club, of Munster, spent two hours recently weeding the grounds of the Humane Society of Calumet Area.
The 4-H program encourages club members to engage in service activities to benefit their community. The Lucky Clovers have helped the Humane Society of Calumet Area in the past with fundraisers and donated homemade toys and dog treats for the animals.
This time, humane society leaders "asked if our club would help pull weeds on the grounds because they had such a large number of weeds growing. Six members of the club were eager to help," said Lucky Clovers 4-H Club Leader Laura Javorka. "So, early in the morning, they met at the humane society and pulled weeds for two hours in the heat. The humane society was very grateful for their work.
"The girls said that they had fun doing the project and felt satisfaction from helping their community," Javorka added.
