CROWN POINT | A Portage man was found not guilty Wednesday of molesting a 5-year-old boy.

Omar Perez, 30, was charged in March 2013 with felony child molesting and felony incest.

The boy, who was 10 when charges were filed, told his mother that Perez allegedly had sex with him sometime between Aug. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2007, while the family was living in New Chicago, according to court records.

The boy told his mother and authorities he was about 5 years old when the sexual assault occurred, court records state. The boy told his mother he had not told anyone but her because he thought he would get into trouble, court records state.

The alleged assault happened while the boy's mother worked a midnight shift, according to court records.
