CROWN POINT | Prosecutors have charged a Portage man with child molesting and incest in an incident when the boy was about 5 years old.
The boy, now 10, told his mother Omar Perez, 29, had sex with him some time between Aug. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2007, while the family was living in New Chicago.
The boy and his mother now live out of state, court records state.
The boy told his mother of the attack in the middle of last year saying, "Mom, I need to tell you something."
The boy told his mother and authorities he was about 5 years old when Perez had him sit on his lap in a chair in the living room.
Perez was alleged to be watching a movie featuring undressed adult men and women when he sexually assaulted the boy, court records state.
The boy told his mother he had not told anyone but her because he thought he would get into trouble, court records state.
The assault happened while the boy's mother worked a midnight shift, according to court records.
