Dyer Police Department to get a new K-9 officer.

HAMMOND — Police are searching for a man believed to have robbed an bank earlier Thursday.

The robbery occurred just before 2 p.m. Thursday at Fifth Third Bank, 1716 165th St., according to Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Hoyda said a man, described as a black male, and dressed in black clothing, displayed a handgun during the bank holdup. He fled in a black Hyundai, according to police.
