EAST CHICAGO | An East Chicago man is accused of punching his stepson in the nose, police said.

Police took the man into custody Tuesday after officers responded to a report of child abuse in the 3800 block of Alder Street, an official said.

The alleged punch caused the 11-year-old boy's nose to bleed, police said.

The man was not identified pending formal charges.

E.C. Central student robbed of cellphone, wallet

EAST CHICAGO | A student at East Chicago Central High School was robbed of his cellphone and wallet Wednesday, police said.

The alleged robbery was captured on video surveillance tape and remains under investigation, police said.

Police investigating report of counterfeit money

EAST CHICAGO | A local restaurant told police Wednesday that someone paid for food with a counterfeit $50 bill.

Restaurant staff said the bill was accepted Sunday and discovered later during a bank deposit, police said.
