ST. JOHN | Lake County police removed four pit bulls from a St. John home Tuesday afternoon and confiscated what appeared to be dog-fighting materials.
The dogs were found after Lake County Sheriff's Detective Michelle Dvorscak served a search warrant about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in reference to possible dog fighting in the 8000 block of Schafer Drive in St. John.
Dvorscak discovered the four dogs and a variety of dog-training materials, including a training log for each dog, according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department. There was no indication, however, people were fighting dogs at the location, according to the release.
The dogs, which appeared to be under 2 years old, were taken to the Lake County Animal Shelter in Crown Point.
The owner of the dogs is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges. The sheriff's office said the owner's name was not being released at this time because the case is still under investigation.
