A new regional youth leadership program hosted its orientation Wednesday and Thursday nights at the offices of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Committee. A diverse group of 50 carefully selected outstanding teens from communities in Northwest Indiana's seven-county area attended the sessions, many with their parents.

The high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors are part of the inaugural class of the South Shore Leadership Youth for Community Engagement program, called SLYCE. Through the SLYCE program, part of Leadership Northwest Indiana, they will develop their leadership capacity while gaining a global perspective and making connections to grow their network.

Each of these high-achieving teens will be paired with a civic organization that will sponsor them throughout the year they spend in the program.
