Parish Festival

WHITING | St. John the Baptist School & Parish Winter Festival will be held March 1 and 2 at 1844 Lincoln Ave. Hours Saturday are from 2 to 11 p.m. with seniors only and Talent Show from 2 to 4 p.m., music by the Merry Notes from 3 to 6 p.m., Slovak dinners and ethnic baked goods, and face painting. Hours Sunday are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.with Pierogi Fest Buscias at 11:30 a.m., Chili Cook Off at 4:30 p.m., Teacher Skit 5 to 6 p.m., band Detour North at 7 p.m. and Sunday-Last Minute Grill. All three days feature tip boards, silent auction, teen room, game room, crafts, bake sale, photo booth, bounce houses, beer, wine, hot dogs, beef sandwiches, pizza, nachos, walking tacos, BBQ pulled pork and desserts. Spaghetti Supper

Paczki dance

CALUMET CITY | St. Andrew the Apostle Parish hosts its annual Paczki Dance at 6 p.m. at the gym, 768 Lincoln Ave. A variety of Polish cuisine catered by Gorka Deli in Orland Park will be available for purchase, including homemade paczki for dessert. Vegas Night

HAMMOND |  St. Casimir School will host blackjack, roulette, dice games, bingo, raffles and more from 7 p.m. to midnight at 4329 Cameron Ave. The $10 entrance fee includes dinner, beer/wine and dessert. All proceeds benefit St. Casimir School students. Call (219) 932-2686.

Shrove Tuesday

GRIFFITH | Shrove Tuesday Services are planned in the school parking lot at 525 N. Broad St. Palms from last year's Palm Sunday Services will be burned in preparation for Ash Wednesday Services at the church. The service consists of prayers, songs and the burning of the palms. Call (219) 924-4163.

Pancake Supper

Mardi Gras Salad Buffet

Ashes to go

VALPARAISO | Too busy for a traditional Ash Wednesday church service but still want to enter the Lenten season the historical Imposition of Ashes? St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will offer drive through Ashes to go from 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. at 505 Bullseye Lake Road.  Call (219) 462-4946.

Ash Wednesday Worship Services

World Day of prayer

Fish Fries

MUNSTER | Lenten fish fries will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave. Menu includes fried perch, macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, green beans, coleslaw and desserts. HOBART | St. Thomas Council No. 1347 Hobart will hold Lenten fish fries from 4 to 7 p.m. through April 11 at St. Bridget Parish Center, 2nd and Main Street. Meals include baked or french fried potatoes, salad bar, coffee and bread. There is a choice of smelt, pollock, ocean perch, butterfly shrimp, whole catfish, lake perch or fishermen platter. MERRILLVILLE | St. Andrew's Parish will hold a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ameling Hall, 801 W. 73rd Ave. Menu includes fried pollock or baked tilapia or six sauerkraut pierogi with baked potato or fries, and coleslaw, bread and butter, ice cream, coffee and punch. SCHERERVILLE | St. Michael's Parish Lenten Fish Fries sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council No. 12177 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the hall, 1 W. Wilhelm. Baked or fried pollock, fries or baked potato, homemade coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, fresh green beans, tossed salad, beets, four-bean salad, pasta salad, bread and butter, lemonade or coffee. MUNSTER | Monsignor Weis Council Knights of Columbus hosts its annual Lenten fish fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 8501 Calumet Ave. Menu includes fried lake perch, fried shrimp, baked cod or a combination meal for $12, beer batter cod dinner for $10, and $6 for a child's portion. All meals include fries or mac and cheese, self-serve sides including beets, cole slaw, three-bean, breadand butter, and coffee and tea. Soft drinks and desserts also available. GRIFFITH | St. Mary School will hold its home-cooked Lenten fish dinners every Friday during Lent from 5  to 7 p.m. at 525 N. Lafayette St. Dinners include beer-battered fried fish, salad bar, choice of baked potato or French fries, bread, dessert, coffee, milk or tea. Pop, beer and wine extra and available at the bar. Shrimp, frog legs and combo dinners also available for $12. Children 12 and under have a choice of fish, shrimp or pizza dinners for $5. Adult fish dinner $10. Senior fish dinners $9.
