HOBART | The outgoing Hobart Township trustee announced Monday she is endorsing Thomas Silich to replace her.
Trustee Barbara Rosser said she believes Silich, who has served on the township's advisory board for eight years, is the best qualified candidate among the three Democrats seeking the office in the May 4 primary.
The other candidates are William C. "Getty" Sikora III and Carroll J. Lewis. Republican William J. Savage is unopposed in his party's primary election.
Rosser said Silich also was a favorite of her late father, Billy Rosser, who served as trustee for 24 years.
"Before the death of my father in June 2007, I asked my dad who he would want to see become the next Hobart Township trustee. He answered: Thomas Silich because he is a union man and would treat everyone with the same dignity and respect."
Barbara Rosser, who served 16 years as trustee herself, isn't running for re-election, ending her family's tenure in township government, which administers food, shelter, burial and other temporary assistance to township residents as well as providing fire protection to township areas outside cities and towns.
