Scattered showers are expected in the Calumet Region on Sunday, but not heavy rainfall as the remnants of Hurricane Isaac move through the state.

Thunderstorms are possible after 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Pretty much your area will remain on the cloudy side and a few scattered showers,” said Bill Nelson, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Romeoville, Ill.

Areas south of the region in Benton and Jasper counties may see up to a half an inch of rain, but totals are expected to be less near Lake Michigan, Nelson said.

A weak cold front slipping across Northern Illinois into southern Lake Michigan kept Isaac’s heavier rainfall to the south, Nelson said.

Dan Repay, executive director of the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission, told The Times on Saturday that the river was nowhere near a level of concern.
