SCHERERVILLE | The body of Indiana National Guard Spc. Sergio Perez returned home Wednesday morning.
Perez, 21, was killed July 16 along with Spc. Nicholas A. Taylor of Berne, Ind., during an attack in Afghanistan. Both were serving with the 713rd Engineering Company based in Valparaiso.
Perez, of Schererville, was a 2010 graduate of Lake Central High School.
Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway in Crown Point. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 8303 Taft St. in Merrillville, with interment to follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park in Schererville.
The Times will not cover Perez's services this week upon the request of his family.
