SCHERERVILLE | Police confiscated 2 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, miscellaneous prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and $7,116 in cash during a drug raid Tuesday.
The Schererville Police Department's Special Operations Task Force and the Northwest Regional SWAT Team executed a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 1200 block of Kennedy Avenue in Schererville.
The search warrant was the result of a three-month investigation by the Schererville Police Department.
Eight people were in the home when officers arrived. All eight are facing drug-related charges, police said. Three people were taken to the Lake County Jail; five others were released with charges pending.
Shain Aures, 24, of Schererville, was charged with one count of maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony.
Mitchell Haddad, 21, of Schererville, faces two counts of dealing marijuana and one count visiting a common nuisance.
Benjamin Weber, 22, of Memphis, Tenn., was arrested on three outstanding Schererville Town Court warrants.
All three are expected to face additional drug charges. The other five have not been charged yet. All eight will be charged within the next 48 hours, according to Schererville Police Department.
"This is a continuing example of the impact that our Special Operations Task Force is having in our community," Police Chief David Dowling said. "If someone wants to come into our town and commit these types of offenses, we will do everything possible to make sure they are arrested and prosecuted."
