SCHERERVILLE | A home health aide is accused of using a client's bank account to pay bills.
Court documents state Ashley Rossi, 26, of Hammond, worked as a caregiver for a Schererville woman.
A relative of the Schererville woman told police she began examining the woman's bank statements in December last year.
The relative noticed several suspicious charges, including one for a cellphone payment, court documents state.
The relative told police the woman didn't have a cellphone.
After contacting the cellphone provider, the relative determined the account associated with the payment belonged to Rossi, according to court documents.
The relative also noticed other unusual electronic withdrawals. One was for satellite television and another appeared to be for a car payment, court documents state.
The suspicious charges occurred between September last year and January.
Rossi told police the woman allowed her to use the woman's checking account to pay her cellphone bill after Rossi explained she was having financial issues.
Rossi allegedly used the checking account to pay that bill and other statements.
The relative told police the woman never allowed Rossi to use her account to pay bills.
Rossi was charged with fraud on a financial institution and theft.
