SCHERERVILLE | At the beginning of the school year, Kelly Rodriguez and Kristy Sliger promised their kindergarten classes at Forest Ridge Academy that there would be a celebration on the 100th Day of School.
Anticipation rose as the day grew closer and closer. Finally, the 100th day of the school year arrived Feb. 5, and as part of the celebration, the children and teachers dressed up like they were 100 years old.
“We have the children dress up every year. The children enjoy it and it is a lot of fun,” Rodriguez said .
The kindergarten classes also participate in fun activities throughout the day. They made necklaces out of 100 Fruit Loops, counted how many times they could write their name in 100 seconds, worked together in groups to see what they could build with 100 cups, and performed many more 100 related tasks.
“My favorite activity was making the necklaces out of Fruit Loops, because you could eat them when you were done,” very practical student Silvia Devine, of Schererville, said.
The children also undertook writing project that took some thought. They had to write and finish the following sentence, “I wish I had 100 ___, but I would never want 100 ___.”
Children wished for 100 pennies, 100 monster trucks and 100 pieces of candy, while seeking to avoid 100 spiders, 100 frogs, and 100 stinky socks.
